Why Specialise in Cancer Exercise?
Cancer incidence is rising globally, and research increasingly confirms the critical role of exercise in cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship. Movement professionals play an essential role in enhancing quality of life, functional mobility, and rehabilitation outcomes for cancer survivors.
However, working with cancer survivors requires specialised knowledge, precise assessment strategies, and carefully designed exercise programs. Movement professionals must understand oncology treatments, physiological responses, and rehabilitation protocols to ensure safe and effective exercise interventions.
About CETI OncoVie™
The Cancer Exercise Training Institute (CETI) is internationally recognised as the gold standard in oncology exercise education, having trained more professionals than any other organisation in the world.
Founded in 1995 by Andrea Leonard M.S., a cancer survivor and pioneer in exercise oncology, CETI empowers health and movement professionals with the expertise to support individuals at every stage of the cancer journey. To date, CETI has trained thousands of specialists in over 55 countries to safely and effectively support individuals recovering from or living with cancer.
Today, CETI continues to lead the field with its rigorous, research-based certification programmes, bridging the gap between oncology care and movement therapy—so that more survivors can heal, move, and thrive.
-
CETI’s education is guided by a global Medical Advisory Board comprising physicians, physical and occupational therapists, researchers, naturopathic physicians, lymphatic drainage specialists and oncology care specialists. Their collective expertise ensures that CETI’s programmes remain evidence-based, medically sound, and clinically relevant, and the board informs the strategic direction and success of the organisation and its coursework.
The M.A.B. was established to guide the company by representing the voices of our expanding international network of medical professionals and caregivers.
The roles of board members include functioning as consultants on new processes, providing insight on scientific and medical content, and serving as healthcare thought leaders and advocates of the cancer patient and survivor.
-
Andrea Leonard is a 41-year cancer survivor, corrective exercise specialist, and author of 17 books on cancer and exercise. Her personal journey—from battling thyroid cancer at 18 to becoming an internationally sought-after educator—fuels CETI’s mission to elevate standards in cancer rehabilitation. Since founding CETI and developing the OncoVie™ Cancer Exercise Specialist curriculum, Andrea has presented around the world, educating professionals across medical, fitness, and rehabilitation settings.
